The Onmidirectional polar pattern captures sound from all directions on all sides of the microphone. This is good for recording a wide sound source, recording the sound of a room or capturing the sound of an instrumentalist who moves a lot.
The Cardioid pattern records whats in front of the microphone, ignoring everything else. It is ideal for vocals and can be used for a wide range of sources including drums, acoustic instruments and guitar cabinets.
